"My dentist found a cavity at my last checkup."
"My filling fell out and I don't know what to do."
"My tooth is sensitive to sweets and cold."
"I want to know what a cavity actually looks like before I panic."
If any of that sounds familiar, take a breath. Most fillings are done in a single visit, and we'll walk you through exactly what we're seeing and what it'll take to fix it, before we touch a drill.
Cavities often show up as a dark spot, brown or black discoloration, or a chalky white patch on the tooth's surface. In more advanced cases, you might see an actual pit or hole. That said, plenty of cavities, especially between teeth, aren't visible at all without an X-ray.
Common signs include sensitivity to hot, cold, or sweet foods, a toothache, or pain when biting down. Many cavities cause no symptoms at all in the early stages, which is exactly why routine checkups catch things you wouldn't notice on your own.
Cavities that form between two teeth are some of the hardest to catch, since you can't see or easily feel them. Food frequently getting stuck in the same spot, or mild, hard-to-pinpoint sensitivity, can be a clue. We routinely check for these with X-rays during your exam.
It happens more often than you'd think, and it's usually not a true emergency, but it shouldn't wait too long either. The exposed tooth is more vulnerable to further decay, sensitivity, and breakage the longer it goes unaddressed, so call us and we'll get you in quickly.

Insurance coverage varies by plan. We recommend calling us with your insurance information so we can confirm your benefits before your visit.
Here’s what getting your cavity handled at Bright Smile Dental looks like for you:

A small cavity treated now is a much simpler fix than the same cavity left for another year.

Your filling is matched to your tooth's shade, so it blends in rather than standing out.

No need to come back for a second appointment for most cases, even if you have more than one cavity to fill.

You'll know exactly what to expect to pay before any work begins, no surprise bill afterward.

We take numbing seriously so the filling itself is as close to painless as possible.

A well-placed filling stops decay in its tracks and restores your tooth's strength and shape.

Step by step
Getting a cavity filled is a simple, well-established process. Here’s what it looks like from your side of the chair:
We take a close look, use X-rays as needed, and confirm the size and location of the cavity before deciding on the right approach.
We numb the area thoroughly so the rest of the procedure is comfortable, with little to no sensation.
We remove the decayed portion of the tooth and fill it with a tooth-colored composite material, shaped and shaded to match your natural tooth.
With proper care, fillings can last for years to come!
We check your bite to make sure the filling feels natural, and walk you through anything to expect as the numbness wears off.

WHAT OUR PATIENTS SAY
950+ five-star ratings on Google. Here’s what a few patients had to say about their dentures:
Due to my upcoming schedule, I was rushing to fix my filling on Saturday (my normal dentist closes on weekends) then I found Bright Smile Dental. Very thankful that they let me schedule an appointment the day I called. The office was very thoughtful, even my family had a great time while waiting for my appointment to be done. Everyone in the office was very kind, smooth and professional. Dr. Kim was very empathetic, friendly as well as very thorough until the very end. I’m very relieved that I finally found an excellent dentist that I can trust. My husband and I both agreed to switch our dentist office to this one. Thank you to the staff and Dr. Kim!
Had a great experience with Bright Smile Dental! Went in for teeth cleaning and they found a small cavity that they corrected same day! Staff is always awesome there and I have done all my work with them! Highly recommended!
I just got my cavity fillings done by Erin and Dr. Kim and I love how they took their time to make sure everything was perfect! I’m glad I chose Bright Smile Dental for my dental services. 100% recommend joining their dental plan as well.
Dr. Kamran and Cheyenne were an amazing team! My 4 year old needed a cavity filled and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. They had her relaxed and giggling the entire time. I’ve already scheduled my other child’s next visit with them and will be seeing them myself going forward. Highly recommend! It’s so rare in my experience to find a dentist office that seems to genuinely care, and the staff here does!
Found I had an extremely painful cavity on one of my 3 remaining wisdom teeth, and they got me in within 1 day of first contacting them about the issue. I chose not to be put under for my wisdom teeth removal and they still made the process fast and comfortable for me and they have earned my business and my respect. I highly recommend them for any dental work needed.
Everyone at Bright Smile is very friendly and welcoming! The office is new, very clean, and top notch! They offer snacks and refreshments while you wait along with free WiFi! Dr. Cheung and his staff take great care of their patients and make the whole experience very comfortable and easy! I have had several procedures over the last few months with Dr. Cheung, including teeth cleaning, teeth whitening, a cavity filled, and Botox, and I would recommend him highly to anyone looking for a great dentist!

Bright Smile Dental, led by Dr. Jerry Cheung, provides tooth-colored fillings for patients throughout Powell and the greater Columbus area, with over 950 five-star Google reviews and same-day appointments available for urgent cases, like a filling that’s fallen out.
No. We numb the area before starting, so you shouldn’t feel pain during the filling itself. You may notice some mild sensitivity or soreness for a day or two afterward, which typically resolves on its own.
Most fillings take about 20 to 45 minutes per tooth, depending on the size and location of the cavity. If you have multiple cavities, we can often fill more than one in the same visit.
Call us as soon as you can. It’s not usually a true emergency, but the exposed tooth is more vulnerable to further decay, breakage, and sensitivity the longer it goes unfixed, so it’s best not to wait. In the meantime, keep the area clean and avoid chewing on that side.
Cost depends on the size of the cavity, the material used, and your insurance coverage. We verify your benefits and give you a clear, itemized estimate before any treatment begins, with financing available through CareCredit and Cherry if needed.
Yes, though we recommend waiting until the numbness fully wears off so you don’t accidentally bite your cheek or tongue. If you had a tooth-colored filling, it’s fully hardened before you leave, so there’s no need to avoid any particular foods afterward.
Not in the traditional sense, but the bacteria that cause cavities can be passed between people through saliva, like sharing utensils or kissing. That’s one reason good oral hygiene matters for the whole family, not just the person with the cavity.
In the very earliest stage, before it’s actually formed a hole, tooth decay can sometimes be reversed with fluoride treatment and better oral hygiene. Once a true cavity has formed, though, it needs a filling — it won’t heal on its own.
Cavities between teeth can be harder to notice than ones on a visible surface. Watch for food frequently getting stuck in the same spot, sensitivity to sweets or temperature, or mild aching. Many are only caught with X-rays during a routine exam.
Composite, tooth-colored fillings typically last 7 to 10 years with good care, though it varies by location in the mouth and how much chewing pressure the tooth handles. We’ll keep an eye on your fillings at your regular checkups.
Most dental insurance plans cover a significant portion of a routine filling, since it’s considered preventive and restorative care. We’ll verify your specific benefits so you know your out-of-pocket cost before treatment.
We’re here to give you a fast, honest answer and get it taken care of — let’s get started.
